House of Ruth

House of Ruth

Spring is here (reportedly), and thus it is the official time to purge one's house of clutter.
There are many worthy organizations to which we can give our cast-offs, but I'd love to organize donations to the House of Ruth from our team this season. They're women and children, we're women and children--seems a natural fit. The House of Ruth helps abused women and their children. Find more information here

Bring donations to either practice or games (double bagged in trash bags), and I'll make sure the donations make it to the House of Ruth.

Their current wish list includes the following:  Note that only clothes, linens, and electronics may be used.
  •   New or clean, gently worn women’s clothing, shoes, and accessories
  •   New undergarments for women (all sizes) and girls and boys (ages 0-17)

In case you don't see anything that you can donate to the House of Ruth, Purple Heart is an organization that accepts a wider variety of donations. They will even come to your house and pick up your donations. It's a great option for donating larger items while helping wounded veterans get the help they need. You'll be given a tax-deduction receipt at the time of your donation.

  1. I dropped off a carload of stuff today. The staff was very grateful, as I know the residents will be. I have two extra receipts (for tax-deduction purposes) for the two people I know went out and purchased a good amount of stuff. If anyone else wants me to get receipts for them, I will. I'd love to continue doing this throughout the season. For me, personally, it's helping me declutter my house. It's easier for me to get rid of high quality items when I know specifically where they are going. For those of you who don't have such an overload of crap as I do, consider donating directly on their website, or asking friends and family. Apparently diapers, wipes, and linens are always greatly needed. They accept gift cards (maybe you have one from Christmas or a birthday that you'll never use?), and though shoes aren't listed on their website, they said they DO take used shoes. Perhaps you know a runner who discards sneakers as soon as they lose their bounce? I'll take carloads over as often as needed. Thank you--from me, the women, and the children.
